Salt is definitely in the air around our independent creative consultancy based in the seaside town of Southport on the Sefton coast, UK. True, the sea rarely, actually comes “in” here but still the pier boasts being the second-longest in Great Britain. If only those Victorians in 1860 had added a few more yards of iron, but then *sigh* they were probably all more focussed on the length of their beards…

Salt Content was founded by Angela Salt and launched at her inaugural WOMEN OF STEEL dinner at The Children’s Media Conference in 2018. It was a wonderful event celebrating the brave women of Sheffield who kept the steelworks open during the wars. Solemn respect was paid but also the many women around the table were grateful for modern-day steel marvels – forks and large spoons with which to shovel in generous portions of pasta and Tiramisu.

Aside from building an empire, binge-watching FLEABAG and tending to her many, many, many houseplants, Angela’s current focus is screenwriting, developing and creating content in the children’s media sphere. Hilarious from birth (baby photos don’t lie) she is a lifelong creative with almost three decades of professional experience (*not counting the double-glazing related interlude.) In 1981 Angela briefly contemplated a career as a truck driver inspired by Long Distance Clara in the BBC animated show PIGEON STREET but it was impossible to attain an H.G.V. licence as a twelve year old so instead she decided to become a successful illustrator, designer and art director with a diverse background in communication media including publishing, advertising, children’s product design, brand licensing and marketing. (Yeah, that really floored the school’s career officer who could only offer her *a week’s placement in a local Stoke-on-Trent advertising agency designing ads for a double-glazing merchant using LETRASET and LETRATONE.)

For several years Angela was a part-time tutor in illustration, creative thinking and art direction at Kingston, Manchester Metropolitan and Salford Universities. Highlights were appraising a student’s work produced entirely in snail trails and briefly being eligible for a jammy Apple store discount as ‘Faculty Staff’. Head-hunted to teach at the original School Of Communication Arts in London, Angela worked closely with the late John Gillard who was acclaimed as one of the foremost teachers of creative skills in Britain. Angela went on to jointly deliver a programme entitled, “Week Of A Thousand Ideas” with Gillard around the U.K. in the mid 1990’s. To the present day she continues to have at least a thousand ideas a week and to draw upon her diverse visual and communication arts background as an extremely ‘visual’ screenwriter with an aptitude for comedy and additional, complementary skills in art and design.

Angela is an experienced public speaker at events and conferences such as The Children’s Media Conference (The CMC), Bangalore B2B, The European Women In Games Conference and the Manchester Animation Festival. She can make an audience laugh but also talks serious business when it’s no joking matter. Angela supports ANIMATED WOMEN UK and is ardently committed to encouraging and mentoring women in the industry with her open mindset and positive, resilient outlook.
